My father in the Lord, Apostle Emmanuel Adewusi, once said that it is impossible to manifest as sons and daughters of the most High without knowing our identity. So to help keep our identity in Christ alive, we have to affirm ourselves regularly, and meditate on what God’s Word says about who we are.
Importance of affirmations
We create by speaking
You can create great things with your mouth. Whenever God wanted to see something come to pass, He declared it with His mouth and it was so. (Gen 1:3, Gen 1:14, Gen 1:11, etc…). Because we are children of God, we can also create by speaking.
The Bible says that you can declare a thing and it will be so. Use your mouth to declare God’s word over your life and establish your identity in Christ.
Faith comes by hearing
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
The more you interact with God’s Word, the more faith will rise within you. As you continue to speak and declare His Word over your life, the more you will start to, not only believe the word, but to also see it manifest in your life.
How to use affirmations
Believe by faith
Your identity should not come from your feelings because feelings always change. Believe that God’s word is true, and run with whatever His word says about your identity.
Be consistent
Make sure you affirm yourself daily — not once in a while. Make it a daily habit.
Come up with a system when you can do your affirmations. It might be in the morning, at night, after a shower, etc. Having a system in place will help you stay consistent.
Start small
You don’t need to be doing 30 affirmations per day — even 5 is good. The most important thing is for you to remain consistent.
Target your areas of growth
If you are struggling with self condemnation for example, find scriptures that talk about forgiveness and being made new in Christ. If it’s your worth, do the same thing until you gain confidence in that area.
