When we think about destiny killers, what comes to mind oftentimes are so-called “haters,” the devil and his demons, witches, warlocks, etc. Although the devil’s plan is to steal, kill, and destroy God’s ordained plan for us (John 10:10), I have come to realize that we also could fall into this very category of sabotaging and aborting our own destiny. In the book of Romans 8:31, Paul writes:

If God is for us, who can be against us? (NKJV)

A good friend of mine was sharing God’s Word one time and asked us (the audience) the above question, and of course, we all enthusiastically responded with an immediate “no one!” He then carefully looked at us and said something along the lines of, “Well… not quite. If God is for you, you can still be against yourself.” Ouch.

God has given us every tool to make it in life and fulfill that which He has called us to do. Yes, the devil will always seek after our defeat, but we must make sure that we are not contributing to his plan against us. There are many men and women of God who aborted their own destinies. One of them is Saul.

Saul’s Rise and Sudden Fall

Saul started off well. He was chosen by God and anointed king over Israel. Scripture says that he was taller and more handsome than anyone else in the land:

There was not a more handsome person than he among the children of Israel. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people. (1 Samuel 9:2)

Anyone could look at Saul’s stature alone and agree that he was indeed created to be king. There are some people who “just have it,” you know? Saul was definitely one of them. But as we get further into the story, we see his sudden downfall, caused by none other than himself. His destiny was cut short due to his lack of obedience.

May this not be our portion in Jesus’ name!

Recognize Your Destiny Killers

As we journey toward fulfilling our destinies, it’s important to pause and reflect on the behaviours that may be holding us back, often without us even realizing it. This could be laziness, fear, procrastination, negative self-talk, lack of rest, etc.

Your list may not be long, but perhaps there’s that one thing hindering you from fulfilling God’s plan for your life. What’s holding you back? Could it be trauma or unforgiveness? Let’s recognize these obstacles and actively seek help to navigate them so we can keep moving forward.
